Jose Taveras is a 2026 C/RHP/1B with a 5-10 195 lb. frame from Clermont, FL who attends Lake Minneola. Larger frame with present strength and muscularity, nice athleticism and classic catchers build. Ran the 60-yard dash in 7.55 seconds. Primary position catcher, working with the standard initial stance and showing good dexterity as he creates his footwork in transition. Glove work is on point, clean midline transfer to appropriately compact arm path. Arm strength is real, building throws up to 77 mph with a pop-time best 2.08 seconds on the bag. Reps on the infield as well, moving well on his feet and making plays with relative ease. Arm played here as well, up to 84 mph. Secondary RHP, with a repeatable delivery and using long arm path and interesting lower 3/4 arm angle. Works quick with good cadence and confidence on the bump. Fastball up 80 mph with deception from his arm angle and hiding the ball a bit. Curveball with 11-4 shape and needs some firmness as it is in the low-60s but the spin is there. Right handed hitter, starting with an open base and inward stride to get things started. Deeper handset and some length to the path working on plane with the barrel. Really strong in the forearms and hands creating loud impact to the pull side. Lofted power with ease. Good student as well.
