PG Grade: 10
Scott Silverstein is a 2008 LHP with a 6'5'', 205 lb. frame from Brookeville, MD who attends St. John's College Prep. He has a long and tall build that is projectable and ideal for a young pitching prospect. Silverstein was one of the revelations of the PG National. He participated in the 2006 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase and threw 81-83 mph and was given an 8.5 grade based as much on his hitting as his pitching. Less than a year later Silverstein is one of the top pitchers in the country. He throws from a fluid low 3/4's release point that is reminiscent of 2007 1st round Madison Bumgarner and like Bumgarner has an unusual arm action that he repeats well. Silverstein topped out at 93 mph and was consistently in the low 90's when he wanted it. His fastball had exceptional life at times and he had the ability to cut or run the ball depending on what he wanted. Silverstein got over his curveball at 75 mph very well for his release point and it had tight spin and plus depth to it. Silverstein worked the corners and pitched like a polished professional. He was the complete package for two innings and earned an Aflac All American spot based on it. Silverstein does swing the bat well as a power hitting first baseman but his future is clearly on the mound. He is a very good student who has a verbal commitment to Virginia. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.
