Jake Allen Dufner is a 2023 1B/UT with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Edinburg, TX who attends Edinburg Vela. Large, broad shouldered build with present physical strength proportioned throughout. Ran a 7.80 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, moves well around the bag on feet and shows comfort with actions, fields the ball out front, strong arm with carry across the diamond; made the plays on the other side of the infield as well, gets feet underneath and shows nice present arm strength. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery with a turn at top of delivery, quick arm through the back working to a high three-quarters release point. Gets inconsistent with release point at times, fastball topped out at 84 mph and worked mostly around the plate while mixing a curveball up to 74 mph, got some chase swings with the pitch. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Long swing path through the zone and incorporates physical strength nicely into swing, creates some whip with the barrel, can shorten up approach and will unlock additional power. Best contact to pull side gap and shows lift to swing, gets extended out front at point of contact. Very good student.
