Torin Mooney is a 2021 LHP/ with a 5-8 185 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends St. Augustine. Medium frame with an athletic build. Primary left handed pitcher with a smooth paced, side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back leg and works to the plate with slight drop and drive actions. Lands in line with the plate and carries momentum through finish. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball generated some downhill angle to the plate with some natural cut to glove side in the low 70's, topped at 74 miles per hour. Occasional changed speed with a slider that showed loose spin with some tilt to glove side in the mid 60's. Consistently worked to the bottom of the zone and induced weak contact. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth, deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Developing glove actions while funneling the baseball and working through exchange. Released from a compact three-quarters slot producing uphill carry to the bag, topped at 74 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with a spread, open stance and simple front side trigger. loose, level path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Looks to contact with baseball out front and work to the middle of the field. Stays on back side throughout swing and flashed the barrel skills to work the other way when letting the ball travel to a deeper hitting position. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition. Good student.
