Matthew Queen is a 2018 LHP/OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Pasadena, CA who attends Polytechnic. Medium frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Primary left handed pitched who worked exclusively from the stretch. Starts at a closed position and works to gather with a medium leg lift. Stayed balanced on back side and work to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Lands in line and carried momentum to plate well through finish. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball produced some downhill angle through the zone with occasional running action to arm side in the mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Showed good feel for fastball and consistently worked to the outer edge of the plate. Curveball had 1/7 shape with tight spin and hard depth. Maintained arm speed well with curveball creating good deception at release point. Also flashed a changeup with occasional sink to the bottom of the zone in the mid 60's. Effectively located all three pitches down in the strike zone throughout each inning of work. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and high back elbow set. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose, extended hand path to contact with a level plane through extension. Primarily worked to the middle of the field but flashed some feel to go the other way as well. Excellent student.
