Troy Straus is a 2021 SS/2B with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Purchase, NY who attends Harrison. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, shows smooth actions up the middle, soft hands out front and fields it cleanly, comes to and through the ball well, funnels into a compact arm action and shows ability to drop slot, accurate across the diamond with carry and arm strength. Also pitched, shows athleticism to delivery, on line arm action through the back working to a high three-quarters release; some drop and drive to lower half mechanics. Repeats well, pitched to contact and filled the zone, fastball topped out at 79 mph, mixed a curveball at 66 mph that flashed 12-6 shape. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Stays short to the ball with swing path and shows loose wrists in swing with long finish through point of contact, occasionally late with front foot trigger. Creates some whip to barrel through the zone, present bat speed and projects with strength, works the middle and pull side parts of the with line drive contact coming off. Very good student.
