James O'Connell is a 2022 OF/RHP with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Boston, MA who attends Boston College High School. Recorded a 7.14 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary outfielder with a developing defensive skill set and segmented footwork into and through the fielding process. Uses short steps to work into fielding out in front with slight waist bend while incorporating a small crow hop into an uphill release. Recorded throws up to 76 miles per hour in outfield drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher, fairly simple operation with slightly offline arm swing, three-quarters arm slot, throws consistent strikes with heavy arm side run to it. Fastball worked in the low-to-mid 70s, topping out at 76 miles per hour with life through the zone. Shows developing feel for spin with breaking ball that varied in shape, showing best when thrown with conviction. Right-handed hitter that hits from a slightly open stance, using a leg lift trigger for timing and elongated, inside swing path. Middle-of-the field approach with some quickness to his hands and developing feel for the barrel. Will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments. Excellent Student.
