Allen Mejia is a 2017 LHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Boston, MA who attends The English HS. Medium frame with long limbs and a lean, athletic build. Presently shows wiry strength throughout frame, but projects for additional strength. Primary left handed pitcher a smooth paced, short rock step delivery. Creates slight curl and balance point and stays in line while driving to the plate. Utilized lower half well creating good on line direction to the plate while carrying momentum through finish. Gains good ground towards the plate with stride and generated good extension at finish. Released from an extended three-quarters arm slot, fastball jumped out of hand well with solid running action to arm side. Generated good downward plane to the bottom of the zone with fastball as well. Slider has 3/8 shape with tight rotation and sharp, late sweep to glove side. Also flashed a curveball with similar movement with slightly more depth. Located to both sides of the plate with all three pitches and effectively challenged hitter on the inner half of the plate. Very smooth, easy repeatable mechanics and arm action. Also showed very good poise while on the mound. Good student. Named to the 2017 World Uncommitted Top Prospect List.
