Steven Whitney is a 2017 RHP/3B with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Dickinson, TX who attends Dickinson HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame, room to still grow stronger. Primary righthanded pitcher, shows a very full arm stroke coming through the back working to a three-quarters release point with extension out front at release. Shows a leg lift up equal to belt, does a nice job of getting tall on the back side with a short spine tilt at the top of delivery, short stride down the mound. Attacked hitters with fastball and topped out at 84 mph, holds velocity well out of the stretch and is able to generate short two-seam running life at times with the slot. Fills up the strike zone and shows comfort in working backwards, consistently mixes and keeps hitters off balance. Lots of confidence in changeup to throw in any count and right-on-right, late diving life down in the zone, will double up on the pitch and up to 72 mph with it. Loose rotation on curveball, flashed some depth when on top of the pitch at 71 mph. Induces weak ground ball contact and maintains arm slot well. Named to South Uncommitted Top Prospect List.
