2018 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Kodi Smith is a 2020 3B/RHP/UT with a 6-3 170 lb. frame from Pell City, AL who attends Pell City HS. Tall, long frame with an athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple, repeatable side step delivery. Medium leg lift and stays balanced at gather. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly producing heavy plane through the zone in the low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Displayed good feel for fastball with the ability to consistently work to each edge of the plate. Maintained arm speed with a curveball offering that showed 10/4 shape with tight spin and late depth in the upper 60's. Utilized breaking ball in both positive and negative counts. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while ranging for and working to the baseball. Funnels the baseball and works through exchange with developing fluidity. Created solid carry across the infield topping at 84 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance and hanging front side trigger. Aggressively shifts into contact with lower half. Loose hand path to contact with a naturally leveraged barrel plane through extension. Looked to swing with intent and drive the ball to the middle of the field between the gaps. Named to the 2018 National Underclass Main Event Showcase, Top Prospect List.
