Desmond Gates is a 2017 OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Los Angeles, CA who attends Bishop Montgomery HS. Gates has an athletic build with room to fill out. Hits from a slightly open stance. An aggressive approach with a line drive swing plane and lift. Swings with intent, makes solid contact, mainly to pull side. but shows ability to go gap to gap in games. Had solid swing and feel for barrel. Defensively, primary OF, solid actions to the ball, feet and hands work well. Solid clean arm action with high release and gets a bit uphill on throws but shows carry, more carry and velo will come when he begins to get on top of throws. Named To the Top Prospect List.
