Taylor Johnson is a 2019 RHP/IF with a 5-9 135 lb. frame from Richland, WA who attends Richland HS. Smaller, lean build. Projects for added build with strength. On the mound shows a simple, repeatable delivery. Creates coil at balance while showing numbers with a tendency to land slightly open at stride. Hides fastball well and has some downhill angle from a high 3/4 arm slot ranging 72-74 mph, topped at 75 mph. Aggressively attacks the strike zone with fastball. Curveball has 11/5 shape with some depth. Shows best snap and depth in the high velocity band, topped at 63 mph. Flashed a change-up at 65 mph with slight fading actions. At the plate shows a straight stance with a higher hand and back elbow set. Downhill swing plane that produces line drive, ground ball contact. BP and game approach were consistent with a mid-field, pull side approach. Tends to first front hip early at times. Shows to ability to keep hands back in a good hitting position and drive the ball to opposite field. Shows best swings when driving the ball to middle of the field. Worked out defensively from the infield. Funnels ball deep into body with a smooth glove to hand transfer. Creates good direction into throws with a loose arm action while throwing, topped at 68 mph across. Shows some range with solid footwork around the baseball. Has some tools for a 2019 and should continue to develop with physical development.
