James Adams is a 2018 1B/LHP with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Dallas, TX who attends Lake Highlands HS. Medium frame with broad shoulders and beginnings of strength. Primary left handed pitcher who worked exclusively from the stretch. High leg lift and stays slightly flexed on back side at gather. Works to the plate with tall and fall actions, stays in line with target at finish. Compact arm circle straight back at separation and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball generated some downhill angle through the zone, topped at 71 miles per hour. Curveball had 1/7 shape with loose spin and some depth in the mid 60's. Worked quickly while on the mound and went after hitters. Showed the feel to work to each side of the plate and induced softer contact through each inning of work. Also worked out defensively from first base. Centers the baseball well and flashed some range while moving for the baseball to each side. Funnels out front and released form a three-quarters slot creating softer, accurate carry to the bag. Left handed hitter with an upright, even stance. Loose path to contact with a level, line drive barrel plane. Stays on back side throughout and worked to contact with rotational lower half actions. Let the baseball travel to a deeper position in the hitting zone and looked to work to the middle of the field and opposite field gap throughout batting practice. Excellent student as well.
