Jean Ortiz is a 2017 MIF/OF with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Flower Mound, TX who attends Flower Mound High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.00 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, moves very well on feet and stays balanced throughout actions, soft hands play at the ball and funnels into a quick transfer, works through the backhand well, good first step to the ball, quick arm and gets on top of throws, accurate across, plays with a high level of confidence in actions. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Begins open with lower half and gets closed with shift moving into contact, remains balanced while doing so. Shows quickness to hands and helps create bat speed, front side occasionally goes early and disrupts timing, sound path through the zone and creates sound contact off the barrel when on time, line drive swing plane. Good student.
