Patrick McKinney is a 2021 3B/RHP/1B with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Helena, AL who attends Spain Park HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Ran a 7.74 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, takes short steps moving towards the ball and does nice job of fielding it out front with glove, accurate throws across diamond from a long arm action in the back, getting on top of ball will help increase carry and additional arm strength will continue to develop. Also pitched, works with a short arm action through the back while getting to a high three-quarters release point, lands closed with front side, helps create cut action to glove side on fastball which topped out at 72 mph. Pitched off his fastball exclusively and threw strikes with it. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and high back elbow at start. Upper body dominant swing and uses hands well, shows looseness to them and will continue to add strength to contact with lower half involvement. Starts with an open stance and uses a toe tap trigger for timing, line drive swing plane through the zone with a short path, keeps hands inside throughout. Good student.
