Garcia is a good player with strength. A clearer idea of a future position would make him easier to grade. The 6-0 Garcia has two present defensive tools in his hands and his arm strength that are Major League average now. In fact his arm strength from shortstop is a tick above average. Garcia’s foot quickness and overall speed aren’t quite up to playing shortstop at the major college level or above, however. Only having seen Garcia for three days, it would be tempting to profile him as a catcher. Third base is also a possibility. Offensively, Garcia showed us a good fundamental swing with a good swing path to the ball. He made consistent hard contact to the middle of the field in both in BP and in live game situations and all he needs is more upper body strength before he starts driving the ball with authority. He shows power potential in his short compact swing. Right now he shows good bat speed and hits line drives. His running ability is close enough to average to project any position other than shortstop or center field. He could really help a high level college program. Joey is an excellent student.
