LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Jacob Thompson is a right handed pitcher from Danville, Virginia, with 4 pitches that could be in the Major League average to plus range. He has a lean and athletic 6'6", 185 lb. frame with excellent physical projection. His delivery is online with very good arm speed and a good arm arch on the backside. He has some slight pause points in his arm arch, but his arm does work well and his body generates good leverage. Maybe the most impressive thing about his mechanics were the consistency in arm action and release point on all 4 pitches. Thompson's fastball velocity is very projectable. His fastball topped out at 88 mph to go along with a 72 mph curveball, 77 mph change up, and an 81 mph slider. Thompson has big time depth and tilt on his curveball with plus/plus potential. He also has a very good feel for his change up when he does keep good arm speed. He even showed a slider, with plus potential for life, velocity, and deception. Thompson could be a very high draft pick to go along with a top recruit for any college in nation.
