2024 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Sam Hatcher is a 2028 RHP/1B/OF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Duncan, SC, who attends Oakbrook Prep. A medium frame and athletic build. Plenty of strength in a compact build with plenty of room to keep adding to it moving forward. Projects well down the line. Ran a 7.66 60-yard dash. A primary right-handed pitcher who worked with a staggered setup from the first base side of the rubber. He had a shorter sidestep delivery into a belt-high leg lift before working down the mound. He had a shorter takeaway from a three-quarters arm slot, working directly down the slope with developing arm strength. He threw a ton of strikes, repeating the delivery and showing smooth mechanics as well. Fastball worked the low- to mid-70s with some life to it. Showed a breaking ball in the mid-60s as well, that he could land for strikes. Took BP as a left-handed hitter with an athletic stance. He stood upright with an open base, tighter hands, and a higher hand set. He used a toe-tap trigger with a rotational lower half, staying through it well. Made consistent contact throughout the round with some feel for the barrel. Found some barrels in-game as well, working the entire field. Also worked out in the outfield with throws at 80 mph. He showed a more sidearm release with developing strength and showed some feel for the process. On the infield, he threw 73 mph across at shortstop and 74 mph across from first base. He showed good footwork with a shorter arm action to release. He had some more feel for the footwork as well. Excellent student.
