James Golen is a 2029 SS/RHP/3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from McDonald, PA who attends Mt Lebanon. Medium young athletic build with plenty of physical projection remaining. 7.35 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense, has a good first step and some lateral range, can play on the run, stays balanced and under control, good glove actions and quickness, longer arm action with some young carry on his throws, good bet to keep improving defensively. Right handed hitter, sets up in a narrow stance with a tight hand load and short and compact swing, tends to get out on his front side early and is best when staying back, has some young bat speed and ability to impact the ball, gap to gap contact with some carry, was consistent on on the barrel. Took a turn on the mound, works from a full wind up with a low leg raise start, stays balanced and repeats his mechanics well, high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 81 mph with some running life. Curveball and change up were solid secondary pitches, curveball had some 11/5 depth while the change up was firm with limited spin and good arm speed. Excellent student. Named to the Pennsylvania Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.
