2022 Hawaii Workout Showcase (Aug. 10)
Christopher Mata is a 2023 SS/RHP/OF with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Wailuku, HI who attends Maui. Medium athletic build with some present strength. Outstanding runner, 6.65 in the sixty. Primary middle infielder on defense, has quick feet and very good lateral range, feet work well, plenty of raw arm strength, can improve his accuracy on his throws, athleticism stands out. Also worked out in the outfield and showed very good actions and athleticism there along with big arm strength. Right handed hitter, hits from a straight stance with a low hand load, has quick hands, stays compact and short to the ball with good extension through contact, swings hard and looks to drive the ball, lots of tools to build on as a hitter. Took a turn on the mound, has a fluid and easy delivery with a high leg raise start, hides the ball in back, tight 3/4's arm slot. Worked up to 87 mph on his fastball, gets some arm side running life and stays down in the zone. Showed tight spin and bite on his curveball, turned the change over well with nice fade. Nice all around athlete with tools and skills in every area. Good student. Named to the Hawaii Workout Showcase Top Prospect List.
