KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Darby Burnett is a 5'7, class of 2026, RHP/OF from Rogers, AR who attends Pea Ridge HS. Darby is a young, up and coming player who shows potential projectable two-way ability that could lead a possible/definite opportunity at the next level. She ran an impressive 3.26 20-yard dash with a plus 1.13 5-yard split. Both times are plus average for her age group. A primary RHP, Darby has a solid five pitch mix that is sound for any pitcher at any age, but is exceptional for a player so early in her career. She has a very quick arm and pitches off of her explosive 58-mph fastball that she routinely works down in the zone. Her change-up shows cut upon release and is worked consistently to the glove side edge. Her curveball shows both solid break and depth late. She mixes in a slower version of the curve that could be actually called a different pitch - but it looks as if she just adds and subtracts velo off the same action, Great plan! Her screwball is a tight spinner with solid boring action that could give RHH's nightmares. Her drop is an advanced pitch that will play at any level. Big spinner with noticeable bite late. Darby has a lot to build on concerning her game in the circle. By the time her opportunity comes to explore college softball, there is a very good chance, with continued work, advancement, and refinement, that she could be in an elite class of hurlers. Darby also showed a solid grasp of outfield play. She shows her athleticism with easy first step quickness. She positions well and her glovework is sure. She shows a routine transition and her advanced and powerful 60-mph throws find there mark regularly. Solid effort in the OF. She is an emerging hitter with a sound idea. Darby has a balanced and slightly open stance at the ready. She has a late load and a small shoulder turn to start her swing operation. She has an all fields approach and an idea on how to get her barrel to contact. Power should come with physical maturity and exposure to more a higher level of play. Darby has solid, projectable ability. She has a number of years remaining to refine and improve her already advanced game. Big, bright future for this very talented, college bound player!
