2021 Southwest Prospect Showcase
Lute Chavez is a 2025 C/RHP, IF, OF with a 5-11 150 lb. frame from Vail, AZ who attends Cienega. Slender build. Ran the 60-yard dash in 7.56 seconds. Primary catcher, threw a 2.19 down to second base. Is athletic moves well behind the dish, has good footwork with a quick transition and displayed accurate throws. Also worked out in the outfield, displayed good footwork and good hands, showed the ability to make the routine plays. Also took some reps in the infield, showed some athleticism, moved well to both sides of the ball. From the mound, throws from a three-quarter arm slot with a side step and high leg lift delivery. Worked a three pitch mix, the fastball sat 72-79 mph. Threw a curveball that sat 62 mph and flashed a changeup at 69 mph. Left-handed hitter, hits from a wide base with no stride. Had a middle in mentality, still developing strength but will continue to get stronger as he gets older. Excellent student.
