Daniel Lucero is a 2007 catcher/corner infielder from Valley HS in Albuquerque, NM, with a strong 6'2", 195 lb. frame. Defensively Lucero has good arm strength and threw out several runners with a 2.06 game pop time. Lucero could improve his already solid pop times by not standing up on his release. He has good footwork blocking balls in the dirt and centers the ball well on his chest. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with very good bat speed from an upright and straight away stance. There is a slight loft in his swing and he has present raw power, especially to the pull side, that should make him a middle of the order run producer. Lucero has the tools to be a good all-around catcher at the next level. He is also a very good student.
