Brandon Gillilan is a 2009 RHP/3B with a 6'0'', 155 lb. frame from Long Beach CA, who attends Lakewood HS. He has a lanky body type that is still in the development stages. The stronger he gets, the more his stuff will stand out. Gillilan has a nice arm action that works cleanly and will get faster as he gets stronger. He makes a circle on the backside and at the top of his arm arc he is in good position to get downhill with his stuff, provided he stays over the rubber and lets his arm work. His fastball (75-78 mph) did have good down angle and he pitched to contact with it, while also getting some natural cut action at times. Gillilan also featured a big, slow 11/5 shaped curveball (62-63 mph) and threw strikes with it. His approach of attacking the strike zone is one that is an enouraging sign for his future development. Gillilan trusts his stuff and will continue to improve, with the development of his arm speed and strength being the biggest keys for him. As a hitter he showed a quiet approach and a rotational style of hitting, with a flat swing plane. He showed pretty light feet around the 3rd base bag too.
