Cavan Jones is a 2023 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-3 250 lb. frame from Ankeny, IA who attends Ankeny Centennial. Large frame with a thick and sturdy build. Primary right-handed pitcher with a long arm action that gets off line in the back. Huge leg kick above the belt, extends the knee and turns the hips on the delivery. Utilizes drop and drive lower half mechanics. Fastball moves in all directions, has run on the arm side and cut on the glove side. Jerky and segmented operation overall, struggles to repeat it. Flashed a 12/6 curveball with some depth to it, tends to slow his arm down to throw it. Efforty thrower, likes throw inside and often missed to his arm side. Limited command and feel for the strike zone, will improve as he develops consistency within the operation and release point. Right-handed hitter with an open stance and narrow base. Upper body rotational swing with limited weight shift. All fields approach, stays tall in his swing. Shows strong hands and solid contact during his round. Has power potential if he utilizes his body properly and incorporates the lower half. Great student.
