Gavin Strup is a 2023 3B/RHP with a 5-11 169 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Torrey Pines. Primary infielder, had a good showing of athleticism across his game and translated it very well in the field. Showed some bounce and good reaction to the ball. Present footwork with good field awareness and the glove works very well. Arm works at different angles and on the move, does a good job following the throw. In the outfield, makes the position work from being a great athlete. Very fundamental approach, two handed gather but flashed a quick arm with some carry on the throw. Also pitched, the young right-hander was sitting 74-77 with the fastball, working downhill with a fluid short arm. Lands and commands a tight breaking ball in the zone. Right-handed hitter, starts in an even stance and flashed a solid swing when all the pieces were put together. High effort swing, stays tight but short through the zone. Uses a toe tap trigger and maintains good rhythm and lands on time. Will develop barrel control as fundamental breakdown and hands mature. Good student.
