Mateo Herrera is a 2027 LHP/1B/OF with a 5-6 153 lb. frame from Pharr, TX who attends Psja North. Primary LHP with a lean and athletic frame. Throws from a lower slot release starting on the middle of the rubber. Works from a small sidestep delivery into a belt high leg lift and stride downhill. Maintains good balance to the plate and lands inline well with good repeatable mechanics. Fastball worked up to 78 with good life to it and could locate it. Showed good feel to spin with a curve that he could drop in and locate with healthy 1-7 shape. Should continue to get better off the bump and projects for more velo later down the road. Also played outfield working to the ball with a one hand gather out front. Gets the ball out at a good pace and made throws with good accuracy. Developing arm strength but has a good idea and makes the throws. Left handed hitter with a narrow upright base starting slightly open. Big stride into contact for timing and a quality starting handset. Hands dip down on the load and hits it too deep at times. Will need to get on time more consistently. Excellent Student.
