Dawson Montesa is a 2023 SS/RHP with a 5-8 130 lb. frame from Glendale, NY who attends Queens Metropolitan. Young, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.67 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, graded out best on mound in this look. Simple side step moving into a leg lift up past belt; gets tall on backside and shows a long and loose arm action through the backside work into to a three-quarters release. Fastball comes out clean, topped out at 78 mph and creates nice running life while filling the zone; comfort with curveball and lands for strikes consistently up to 66 mph with 11-5 shape and nice depth, plays well off of fastball. Fields the ball out front in the infield with a wide base, extra step into release, longer arm action, overall footwork will continue to develop, accurate throws with carry across the diamond and shows comfort to drop slot. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; upper body dominant swing, utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing. Lowers hands moving into swing, works on a linear plane to point of contact and shows quickness to hands. Projects with strength and additional lower half, comfort working to the opposite field on a line. Excellent student.
