Joel Vargas is a 2028 OF/RHP with a 5-9 145 lb. frame from San Diego, CA. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean build with room to add additional strength throughout. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash. Primary outfield, athleticism plays in actions with smoothness and ease throughout, low effort throws with accuracy to the intended base and works behind the ball well, occasionally gets under throws at release. Twitchy and athletic actions in the infield as well, moves around well on feet and shows accurate throws across the infield, makes all the plays cleanly. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch, quick tempo and occasionally mistimed coming down the mound; works from a three-quarters slot, fastball topped out at 78 mph with occasional run. Tends to lower slot on curveball release, tight spin to it and worked around the zone throughout. Right-handed hitter, begins with a wide and even base with a high hand set and back elbow; loads hands back at start of swing, spread through lower half. Quickness to hands and works on a linear path, loud performance in game showing barrel skills and strength with a couple deep doubles to pull side. Power projects well, swings with intent and shows fast barrel head through the zone. Named to the 2023 13u Perfect Game Select Festival.
