Matthew McDermott is a 2024 SS/2B, 3B, MIF with a 6-1 155 lb. frame from Eastvale, CA who attends Santiago. Lean, athletic frame with a high waist, long levers and plenty of room to add strength. Recorded a 7.17 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary infielder with active footwork throughout the fielding process. Displayed a clean funnel out in-front, while showing developing lateral range and softness to his hands. Showed the ability to make the play on the run, changed arm slots when necessary and recorded accurate throws up to 71 mph across the diamond during drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from a wider, slightly crouched stance with lower hand hand set and small leg lift trigger. Middle-of-the field approach with flatter, direct stroke and feel for the barrel. Showed ability to use his lower half well to create present bat speed and turned the barrel over well on the inner-half. Fundamentally sound prospect with tons of physical projection remaining, will continue to improve with minor refinements to his skill set and additional strength. Good Student.
