Latest Showcase Report
2004 South Top Prospect Showcase   Jul 25, 2004
PG Grade: 9
Chris Kersten is a 6'3/185 2005 3B/P from Kiowa, KS. We had never seen or heard of Kersten before the showcase, nor do we think that many college coaches had either, as this 6'3" infielder comes from a small town in southern Kansas. That should change quickly, as Kersten has a pro type projectable body and solid Division I baseball tools and skills. He missed the first day of the showcase finishing up his high school season, but he quickly caught up with the scouts. Kersten is a top hitting prospect with a level, aggressive swing and above average bat speed. He showed both power potential and bat head skills and pretty much overmatched the pitchers during the last two games. Kersten is a 7.0 runner in the 60 and showed a big league average throwing arm across the infield. Kersten also pitched a couple of innings, showcasing his arm strength by throwing 84-85 mph with a decent 69 mph curveball. Every college coach in the Midwest should be on Kersten, and the pro scouts should take notice, too. Chris is a good student.
