Nicholas Black is a 2019 3B/RHP with a 6-3 180 lb. frame from Geneva, IL who attends Geneva. Lean, athletic frame with long limbs and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional size and strength. Primary third baseman with smooth, fluid footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange efficiently. Displayed accurate arm strength across the infield topping at 85 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, even stance and simple front side trigger. Stays balanced and works to contact with rotational actions. Clean hand path to baseball with a fluid, line drive barrel plane. Repeats barrel path well while employing a mid field approach. Consistently produced sharp contact to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Also pitched utilizing a smooth paced side step to higher leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well generating downward plane through the zone in the low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Curveball has 11/5 shape with solid spin and good depth. Also flashed good feel for the changeup offering that generated run to arm side with sink in the low 70's. Looks to attached the strike zone early in counts with fastball and changes speeds late in counts once ahead. Very good student. Named to the 2018 Midwest Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
