Spencer Whitfield is a 2020 C/IF with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from McPherson, KS who attends McPherson. Large frame with a slight slender build and room to continue to add throughout. Ran a 7.78 second 60-yard dash. Worked out defensively as a primary catcher. Receives out front and into exchanges. Works out well while gaining ground to the bag. Gets on top of throws from a compact actions. Stays accurate to the bag while touching 72 MPH and popping a 1.97 during workouts. Also worked out as a secondary first baseman. Good size at the bag. Fields out front with a long exchange period. Deliberate footwork around the bag as well as coming off. Gets on top and keeps the ball low at 75 MPH. Righthanded hitter with an even stance and high hand set. Utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing. Linear drift into contact through an elevated bat path. Looks to get under the ball some working the middle of the field to opposite field gap exclusively. Excellent student as well.
