Carlos Martinez is a 2019 SS/RHP with a 5-7 146 lb. frame from Round Lake Hts, IL who attends Grant Community. Medium frame with slender, athletic build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.28 seconds. Hits from open-based stance with barrel rested on shoulder, back elbow set low, toe tap trigger, gets barrel moving, line drive swing plane with solid bat speed, stays on the ball well and can work to all fields. Worked out in the infield, hands work well at the ball, clean funnel, stays balanced through footwork, quick transfer and release with solid arm strength, clocked up to 81 mph on throws. Also pitched, worked exclusively from the stretch, compact arm stroke with full effort delivery, fastball worked 77-79 mph with some cutting action at times, also showed ability to sink it. Worked in slider with good tilt and late break, did a good job throwing strikes. Good student.
