Matthew Houston is a 2022 C/1B, 3B with a 6-2 210 lb. frame from Longview, TX who attends Hallsville HS. Matthew will impact at the next level.. His understanding of the game and his energy and effort are certainly ready for continued excellence in the game. As good as Matthew is on the field, his accomplishments in the classroom are even more noteworthy as evidenced by his overall academic achievement. Matthew showed that his ability at his primary position are worthy of advanced recognition. He is a talented catcher. For a larger framed and obviously strong player, He is agile and shows smooth and easy movement. His low profile at the ready, coupled with his soft receiving ability, truly gives his pitcher a decided advantage. His feet work and he gains ground quickly and without wasted actions. His consistent trigger gets his 79 mph throws on their way quickly, His 2.01 pop time is sound, making his accuracy play even better. At the plate, Matthew's size and strength, coupled with the torque and leverage in his swing, make his ability with the bat noteworthy. There is not a lot of wasted action in his operation. He starts with a narrow base and his stride is simple and consistent. He can generate some pop and shows especially sound ability driving the ball to the opposite field gap. His strength and ability to contact the baseball with force is sound. He has a solid feel for the barrel and his emerging power will only get better with experience. Matthew shows top prospect ability whether he has the gear on or he is swinging the bat. He is multi-skilled and will unquestionably impact at the next level.
