Ghavin James is a 2019 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-5 215 lb. frame from Crystal Lake, IL who attends Crystal Lake South. Large frame with broad shoulders, long limbs and present strength. Primary first baseman with clean, sound footwork while centering the baseball. Plays beneath the baseball while funneling and works through exchange with fluidity. Displayed solid lateral range while coming off the bag. Showed present arm strength while throwing across the infield producing stiff, accurate carry to the bag at 85 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a balanced stance and simple front side trigger. Clean hand path to baseball with a naturally leverage barrel plane through extension. Displayed very good present strength at contact with bat speed through extension. Effectively turned the barrel to contact generating hard, loud contact to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Also pitched showing a small rock step to high leg lift delivery. Full arm circle at separation and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of cleanly producing some arm side run in the upper 70's, topped at 80 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with loose spin and solid depth with staying on top of offering at release. Consistently looked to challenge hitters to the bottom of the zone while effectively changing speeds. Named to the 2018 Midwest Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
