Amon Johnson is a 2020 C with a 6-3 225 lb. frame from McLean, VA who attends Blue Ridge High School. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and long limbs, present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate, receives the ball out front and pops tall out f crouch, can continue to incorporate additional lower half into release, full arm stroke through the back and works on top of throws with accuracy to the bag. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box; slight hip coil at top of swing before striding into contact. Upper body dominant swing and can continue to incorporate additional lower half, full swing path through the zone and shows looseness to hands. Creates hard line drive contact when on plane and getting extended out front, shows comfort working to the pull side. Very good student.
