Jeffrey "Kyle" Wheeler is a 2021 C/RHP/IF with a 5-3 125 lb. frame from Kilgore, TX who attends Kilgore HS. Young, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable frame with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.60 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, begins with a low set behind the plate, receives the ball out front, gains short ground and shows some quickness to footwork, gets the ball out from a tight and compact release point, arm strength will continue to develop on throws down to second. Short steps moving towards the ball in the infield, fields the ball out front and funnels cleanly into short arm action, stays low to and through throws, shows accuracy on throws across diamond. Also pitched, leg lift up above belt while getting on tall on back side, compact delivery with a short arm stroke getting to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 65 mph, pitched to contact and threw strikes. Slows arm action slightly on changeup but turns over well with fade, curveball flashes 11-5 shape. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high back elbow and open stance in the box. Glide step moving into contact and loads hands high at start of swing; line drive swing plane through the zone. Contact oriented approach with a full finish through the barrel, shows a handle for the barrel and creates contact to pull side. Projects with additional physical strength. Very good student.
