Diego Gutierrez is a 2021 SS/RHP, 2B with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Norwalk, CA who attends Lakewood. Large build with plenty of room to fill out and strengthen as he continues to develop. Primary infielder, makes good first step reads off the bat. Rounds the ball well, solid comprehension for his footwork. Fields out in front, good softness to his glove work. Strong arm across the diamond, can make difficult plays deep in the hole. On the mound, has a short quick arm action from a three-quarters to high three-quarters slot. Slight lean back as he comes up to his mid leg lift. Slight coil as well, good direction down the mound. Fastball up to 90 mph possesses good natural arm side run. Hides the ball well thanks to his coil at the top. Mixes in a good 11-to-5 shaped curveball with some late bite to the plate. At the plate, uses an upright and open stance with a simple stride trigger. Simple operation, quiet load, looks to use the middle of the field. Sprays the ball around the diamond with a slightly elevated barrel plane through the zone. Was named to the West Coast Prospect top prospect list.
