2017 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Tanner Collins is a 2019 RHP/C with a 5-7 162 lb. frame from Eldon, IA who attends Cardinal Community. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary right handed pitcher with a large rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and drives to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Full arm circle back at separation and released from a high energy, high three-quarters arm slot. Stays in line with the plate at release and carries momentum through finish. Fastball came out of hand easily with occasional downhill angle through the zone topping at 71 miles per hour. Slows arm speed slightly with a curveball offering that showed 11/5 shape with good depth when located down in the zone. Also flashed a straight changeup in the mid 60's. Consistently filled the zone when repeating mechanics and arm action with developing feel to the edges of the plate. Also worked out from behind the plate showing a side set stance while setting up to receive. Gains some ground while working out of crouch and creates slight arm wrap and take back. Loose, smooth glove to hand exchanges while working through transition and released from a compact arm action. Throws produced some carry to the bag developing accuracy. Right handed hitter with a spread, crouched even stance and toe tap trigger. Hands load to a deep position with slight wrap prior to launching on a loose, extended path to contact. Showed some bat speed while working through extension and primarily utilized the opposite field gap throughout batting practice. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Excellent student as well.
