Louie Vargas is a 2017 1B/RHP with a 6-0 210 lb. frame from San Fernando, CA who attends San Fernando. Large frame with strong, physical present build throughout body. Primary right-handed pitcher, hooked arm action through the back but acceleration is clean to release from three quarters arm slot. Lands closed on front foot and creates crossfire, works to add deception to delivery. Fastball worked 83-86 MPH with good heaviness and arm side life, shows good arm speed throughout with solid projection. Flashed very good curveball with 11/5 shape and very good depth; was able to get swings-and-misses consistently on the pitch. Showed changeup with straighter action but good deception out of hand due to arm speed replication. Did a good job of pounding the zone and mixing pitches. Named to 2016 California Uncommitted Showcase Top Prospect List, good student.
