Samuel Abreu is a 2017 OF with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Belleville, NJ who attends Belleville Senior High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders, a high waist, and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 6.94 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, moves well on feet and generates nice momentum working through the ball, high lead arm but gets on top of throws well and shows both carry and strength out of the hand with accuracy to the bag, athletic actions overall and repeats them nicely while working over the front side. Also pitched, big side step moving into delivery before leg lift up past belt, shows a full arm action through the back before working to a high three-quarters to a near over-the-top arm slot. Short, on line stride with lower half, fastball topped out at 78 mph, mostly true in life with occasional cut action from finish. Holds velocity out of the stretch, able to induce ground ball contact with plane an shows feel for curveball, used as put away pitch with short 11-5 shape, flashed depth. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow in the box, employs a short leg lift trigger for timing. Starts closed with base and remains so through contact, short and inside path through the point of contact, shows nice carry off the barrel when squared up. Able to create leverage out front, short shift through lower half, remains in control through swing and shows feel for the barrel. Good student. Named to Mid Atlantic Top-Top Prospect List.
