CJ Brown is a 2020 C/1B/3B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Linwood, NJ who attends Mainland Regional. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to frame with additional room to fill throughout. Ran a 6.93 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, starts low behind the plate and remains down through actions well, gains short ground with direct path, longer transfer and arm action on throws, receives the ball out front, arm strength and carry will continue to develop, accurate throws. Also pitched, moving parts to delivery with a shorter arm stroke and tight release; fastball topped out at 73 mph and showed running life to arm side, induced contact. Developing feel for curveball, up to 59 mph, early break out of hand. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box; upper body dominant swing and can continue to incorporate additional weight shift moving into contact. Loads hands back at start of swing, stays short to the ball and looks to lift at the point of contact. Compact through point of contact, able to elevate when out front, incorporates present strength into swing. Excellent student.
