Stephen Wickens is a 2007 MIF with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Whitby ON, who attends Sinclair SS. He has a live bodied athletic build and some present strength. Wickens is a quality athlete and shows that in his defensive actions at shortstop. He moves well laterally, especially to his left, has quick actions and good flexibility. He showed that he could make a variety of different throws with arm strength and carry and is especially good at getting off quick throws from a low release point. Wickens could improve his balance at the point of fielding the ball, but has the athleticism at this point to overcome that and still make plays. He can definitely play shortstop at the next level. Offensively, Wickens hits out of an open stance with a long stride into the ball. He showed good hand quickness and a line drive swing plane that hits to all fields. When Wickens was aggressive in his approach he laid some good swings on the ball; occasionally he looked like he was guessing and didn't show the same bat speed. His speed is a plus on offense and on the bases.
