Donte Valdez is a 2018 OF/ with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Visalia, CA who attends Redwood. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build and beginnings of present strength throughout. Ran a 7.04 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder with smooth, athletic actions while closing on baseball. Clean, fundamental glove skills while working through the baseball and transitoin. Creates a short arm cirlce back at separation and releases from a three-quarters arm slot with recoil. Throws create some carry to the bag with developing arm strength, topped at 78 mph. Right handed hitter with a narrow, upright stance and high back elbow set. Creates some coil and wrap with front hip at load. Front side leg lig trigger. Lower half launches with linear actions to contact generating good shift into contact. Hands launch on a direct path with a line drive plane. Primarily used a mid-field approach, but has the present barrel skills to work the baseball to all fields. Turns the barrel well to pitches middle-in generating solid bat speed and pop to the pull side gap. Repeats swing plane well with smooth flow through extension. Tools will continue to improve with maturity and repetition. Very good student. Named to 2016 West Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
