2016 Mid Atlantic Top Prospect Showcase
John Szpara is a 2017 OF/1B, 3B with a 6-4 190 lb. frame from Metuchen, NJ who attends Metuchen High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a long, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, short steps moving towards the ball, fields the ball out front and uses a crow hop to gain some momentum, additional lower half and getting on top of ball will help develop added carry to throws, full arm action through the, occasionally opens front side early, shows strength out of the hand. Fields the ball out front at first base and shows a similar full arm action through the back, easy target to throw to at first base, gets on top of throws well. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a low back elbow in the box. Uses a high leg lift trigger at start of swing and utilizes a pull side approach, gets to front side early at times. Linear swing path and keeps hand inside throughout path, contact approach, creates consistent contact to pull side. Excellent student.
