2017 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Will Christophersen is a 2018 RHP/ with a 6-4 185 lb. frame from Bettendorf, IA who attends Pleasant Valley. Large frame with long limbs and an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a small rock step to high leg lift delivery. Creates slight coil over back leg at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Long, loose arm circle at take back and release from a three-quarters slot. Showed very good arm speed with a fastball offering that generated heavy running action through the zone with some sink in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 88 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with very tight spin and late, hard depth in the mid 60's. Also utilized a slider that had 9/4 shape with similar tight spin and hard sweep to glove side in the low 70's. Showed good feel for all three pitches and consistently located to each edge of the plate. Over matched hitters and showed a good knowledge for pitching while on the mound. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing clean, smooth footwork while closing to the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling and working through exchange. Loose three-quarters arm slot at release and generated accurate carry to the bag, topped at 89 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational actions. Simple path to baseball with a lifted barrel plane through extension. Attacked the baseball utilizing an aggressive approach. Consistently barreled baseball producing hard contact between the gaps. Very good student. Named to the 2017 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
