Matt Baker is a 2018 C with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Mount Pleasent, SC who attends Wando HS. Medium, athletic frame with long limbs and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout, shows present strength. Primary catcher, wide base receiving behind the plate, receives the ball out front, gains short ground and could continue to incorporate lower half, fast transfer out of glove and release, full arm action, gets on top of throws well and shows accuracy down to second base, arm strength will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide and slightly open stance with a high back elbow in the box. Lower hand set to start, stays short to the ball and looks to generate line drive contact to the pull side. Simple mechanics overall and repeats them well, extends through the ball well and gets the ball there regularly.
