Nelson Monge is a 2017 C/ with a 5-10 164 lb. frame from Ceiba, PR who attends International Baseball Academy. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.08 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher with quick, fundamental feet while gaining ground to the bag out of crouch. Soft hands while receiving and works through transfer with quick, clean exchanges. Shows a loose, slightly up hill arm action at release topping at 71 mph, best workout pop time of 1.94. Throws created solid carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance. Compact lower half action to contact while creating a direct hand path to contact. Primarily used a mid-field approach but flashed the bat speed to turn barrel and produce loud contact to the pull side gap. Consistently squared up contact throughout batting practice with solid balance. Good student as well.
