Matthew Messer is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Angier, NC who attends South Johnston. Large frame with muscular present build and good remaining projection. Primary pitcher, traditional mechanics with online delivery, medium effort, uses legs well driving towards the plate. Clean arm action to 3/4 slot, creates solid angle with extension, FB worked 76-80 with solid life to arm side. Showed CB with 11/5 shape, very good depth on pitch. Also showed CH in mid 70's with mild fading action and solid deception. Did good job working to both sides of plate, down in zone, with whole arsenal. Hits with longer stride into contact, drops hands into load, line drive swing plane with solid strength in swing. Generates solid extension through contact, made consistent contact with best contact on a line back through the middle. Fielded cleanly at 1B, showed solid footwork around the bag and on the pivot, made consistently accurate throws to 2B and 3B. Very good student.
